1. What this covers
This policy explains how Praktika.ai Company of 2100 Geng Rd, Palo Alto, CA 94303, United States (“Praktika”, “we”, “us”) uses cookies and similar technologies: what they do, how long they last, and how you control them.
It applies to praktika.ai, including our blog, and to our sign-up and quiz websites at start.praktika.ai, go.praktika.ai, learn.praktika.ai, promo.praktika.ai, try.praktika.ai and redeem.praktika.ai. It does not cover the Praktika app at app.praktika.ai or our mobile apps, which have their own arrangements.
Our Privacy Policy covers everything else we do with personal data, and is where to go to make a privacy request.
2. What cookies and similar technologies are
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser and can read back later. It lets us recognise your browser, remember what you did, and understand how the site is used.
Cookies are not the only way to do that, so this policy covers the rest too:
- Local and session storage: like cookies, but held by the page rather than sent with every request. Most of what remembers your progress lives here.
- Pixels and tags: a small image or piece of code loaded from another company’s server. Loading it tells that company you were on the page.
- Tracking links: a link carrying information about where you came from, so the right partner is credited.
- Server-to-server measurement: measurement between our servers and a provider’s, with nothing in your browser. See section 7.
Where we say “cookies” below, we mean all of these.
First-party cookies are ours, and only we can read them. Third-party cookies are set by another company through our site, and that company can generally recognise the same browser elsewhere too. Every third-party cookie that measures you or advertises to you sits in Analytics, Performance or Advertisement, the categories section 3 lets you control. A few other companies appear in Necessary in section 5: the ones that take your payment, sign you in, keep the site standing up and send your account emails. They are there because the site cannot do those things without them, and none of them is used for advertising.
Session items last one visit and disappear when you close your browser. Persistent items stay for a set period; section 5 gives the maximum for each.
3. Your choices, and how to change them
How the choice is offered
We ask everyone the same way, wherever you are. When you first arrive, a banner asks for your choice, and nothing in Functional, Analytics, Performance or Advertisement runs until you make it. There are no pre-ticked boxes, and refusing takes the same single click as accepting. Necessary is always on.
Your choice covers every site listed in section 1. Make it once on any of them and it applies on the others, so you are not asked again on each one.
We ask you again after 6 months, or sooner if something changes that affects your choice (section 10).
Changing your mind
You can change your mind at any time. Select Cookie settings: the link is in the footer of every page, and the privacy button stays on screen while you browse. In the United States the same control is also labelled Your Privacy Choices. Withdrawing is exactly as easy as agreeing: same place, same number of clicks.
When you withdraw, we stop the relevant requests, delete the first-party cookies in that category where we can, stop the related server-to-server events, and ask the providers who support it to delete your data. One honest limit: we cannot recall something already sent before you withdrew.
Your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, and most let you block third-party cookies specifically. Blocking the necessary items in section 5 will stop parts of the site working.

Your phone
If you install our app, the store links in section 7 use your device’s advertising identifier. On iPhone and iPad, turn off Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. On Android, use Settings › Privacy › Ads › Delete advertising ID.
Industry opt-outs
Some of our advertising providers take part in tools that work across many sites at once: the Network Advertising Initiative and YourAdChoices in the US, and Your Online Choices in Europe. Google also offers a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics on every site you visit.
Browser privacy signals
We do not currently act automatically on Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signals. Because nothing optional runs until you agree, you do not need them to refuse on our sites: use Cookie settings to refuse, or to withdraw a choice you made earlier.
4. The categories, and what goes in them
These are the same categories you see in the banner and in Cookie settings. Necessary is always on. The other four are off until you allow them (section 3).
Necessary (always on)
These do things the site cannot do without, so there is no toggle. We use them to:
- remember the answers you just gave and which question you are on, so you can go back and edit;
- keep you signed in;
- hold your order through checkout, and prevent payment fraud;
- show the site in the language you chose;
- detect faults and security problems, such as a request that failed;
- record the choice you make in the banner.
There is nothing in this category for advertising, and nothing that measures you.
Functional (optional)
Keeping the version of a page you were shown from changing mid-visit, remembering that you closed a promotional message so we do not show it again, and deciding which features are switched on for you. The site works without these.
Analytics (optional)
Understanding how people use the site: how many people visit and which screens they reach, where people stop, and how two versions of a page compare.
We do not use Analytics data for advertising. Where a provider could also be used that way, the capability is off, and any advertising use sits in Advertisement behind its own control.
Performance (optional)
Understanding how the site performs during your visit: how quickly pages load, and what goes wrong on the screens you see, so we can fix slow or broken pages.
Advertisement (optional)
Working out which ad, link or partner brought you here; matching a sign-up or purchase back to an ad you clicked; reaching people with similar interests; and paying the partner who referred you. This includes the measurement in section 7.
Social: we embed nothing
We do not embed posts, videos or feeds from social networks, so nothing loads from them just because a page mentions them. If we add such an embed, it will not load anything until you choose to play it.
Advertising tools from social networks are a different thing, and we do use those: the Meta, TikTok, Pinterest and LinkedIn tools on our sites are advertising tools and sit in Advertisement.
Information we never send to advertisers
Your age, your gender, your first language and the language you are studying, and your name are never sent to an advertising or affiliate provider, with or without your permission, and not in scrambled form either.
Your name and language are sent to Customer.io, which sends our emails, so those emails reach you in your language. Nothing else you tell us in the questions leaves us.
5. What we use
Lifetimes are the maximum we have measured on our own site, or the maximum the provider documents where a cookie only appears after an ad click. Providers change names and lifetimes when they update their tools, so the Cookie settings panel always holds the current list.
Not everything below runs on every site. praktika.ai, our main site, uses only the items marked (also praktika.ai) or (praktika.ai only): Google Analytics, the Google Ads items, Datadog, LinkedIn and Cloudflare. Everything else runs on the sign-up and quiz sites.

6. If you turn the optional ones off
The site keeps working. The questions still run, still remember your answers, still let you go back and change them, and you can still sign up and pay. Everything genuinely needed to deliver the product is in Necessary.
What changes is that we stop measuring, and we stop being able to tell which advertising works.
7. Measurement that does not use a cookie
Some advertising measurement happens between our servers and a provider’s, with nothing in your browser, so blocking cookies does not stop it. Your Advertisement choice does: it controls these events exactly as it controls the tags in your browser.
When you sign up or buy, and only if you have allowed Advertisement, we may send Meta, Google, Microsoft, Pinterest or TikTok a record of that event so they can match it to an ad you clicked. It can include the advertising click identifier from your link, a device identifier and your email address each converted into a code that cannot be turned back, your IP address and browser type, and the value of a purchase. It never includes the information listed at the end of section 4.
If you withdraw permission we stop sending these immediately, but we cannot recall one already sent.
Our links to the App Store and Google Play, and some promotional links, route through an attribution service so we can tell which link led to an install. Those links do nothing until you click them.
8. Who receives data, and where it goes
The providers in sections 5 and 7 receive data for the purpose given in their row. Most are in the United States or process data there.
Some act only as our processors and cannot use the data for their own purposes: our consent, analytics, performance, error-monitoring, payment, authentication, feature-configuration and messaging providers. Our advertising providers include LinkedIn, whose EEA and UK contracting entity is LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company. Advertising and affiliate providers also use the data for their own purposes, which is why those are the tools section 3 puts under your control.
Where data leaves the UK, EEA, Switzerland or Brazil we rely on the safeguards that apply: an adequacy decision, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK Addendum or IDTA, or the equivalent Brazilian mechanism. Our Privacy Policy names the mechanism for each provider, and you can ask us for a copy.
9. If you are in the United States
Nothing in Advertisement runs until you allow it. You can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising at any time using Your Privacy Choices, which is in our footer as well as in the banner.
Where the law where you live gives you a right to limit how sensitive personal information is used and disclosed, that control is in the same place.
Some of these rights depend on whether a particular state law covers us. We offer the controls to everyone in the United States rather than asking you to work out which rules apply to you.

11. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when what we do changes. When we do, we change the date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects your choices, we will ask you again rather than assume your earlier answer still stands. We recommend checking back occasionally.
