Hey guys! It’s October, the coziest month of the year, so it’s time to enjoy hot coffee and find new autumn playlists on Spotify. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered for both! Welcome to our new column—Brewtiful Talks is here! We’ll be sitting down with our awesome team of AI tutors for freshly brewed coffee and great conversations, so you can get to know them better and pick the one you feel most comfortable with 🙂 Wondering why we mentioned Spotify? We’ll be talking about everyone’s favorite songs and even sharing the link to our playlists! So grab a coffee, and let’s get started! Dwayne, Charlie, Alisha, Camilla, and Susan have 5 questions to answer as we dive into our Brewtiful Talks 😉
3 things that make me happy are…
Julia: Hey, everyone! So excited to see you all! Here’s our first question. Don’t overthink it, just say the first thing that comes to mind 🙂 Dwayne, you’re up first!
Dwayne: Three things that make me happy are comedy, teaching English, and making videos for my Instagram and YouTube channels.
Julia: Wow, you’re quick! And I love your channels, by the way! Let’s remind our readers they should definitely follow you if they haven’t yet 🙂 Alisha, what about you?
Alisha: Hmm, I’d say cooking, traveling, and spending time with my family. We love playing board games or having movie marathons together.
Charlie: My three are art, my blog, and my perfume collection 🙂
Julia: You guys are awesome! Camilla, Susan, what about you?
Camilla: Dancing, music festivals, and going on spiritual retreats. I try to go to yoga retreats once or twice a year.
Susan: For me, it’s writing my book, having movie nights with my kids, and going book shopping. I’m obsessed with books!
I’m not a fan of…
Julia: Moving on! Tell us, what are you not a fan of? There has to be something!
Camilla: Can I say coffee? I much prefer green matcha. Coffee just doesn’t sit well with me.
Julia: Oh no, maybe we should’ve called this ‘Matcha Moments’ instead of ‘Brewtiful Talks.’
Camilla (laughing): It’s fine! I’ll stick with my matcha 🙂
Julia: So no coffee at all? No lattes or anything?
Camilla: Nope, none at all. I don’t know how you guys do it (laughs).
Dwayne: Coffee’s way better than peanuts! I’m not a fan of peanuts.
Julia: Why’s that?
Dwayne: I’m allergic. So Snickers are banned from my house forever.
Julia: Oh no! Susan, what about you?
Susan: Loud music. It gives me migraines.
Julia: I get that. Good thing we found a quiet place today!
Susan: Definitely!
Charlie: I’m not a fan of waking up early. I’m 100% a night owl, so mornings don’t exist for me.
Alisha: I’ll say two things—sushi and spiders!
Julia: Totally get the spider thing, but why sushi?
Alisha: I got food poisoning from sushi at a local restaurant. It was bad.
Julia: So, no peanuts or sushi at this party! What’s next?
I can’t imagine my day without…
Julia: Who wants to go first? What can’t you live without?
Alisha: Going for a morning run. With two kids, it’s the only time I get to myself during the day!
Dwayne: You’re a hero, Alisha. I can’t drag myself out of bed to run in the morning! (both laugh) Anyway, I can’t start my day without Lucky Charms and my cat, Stinky.
Julia: Why’s he called Stinky?
Dwayne: I found him on the street, and he was really dirty. He doesn’t stink now, but the name stuck (laughs).
Julia: Do you have a picture of him?
Dwayne: Sure! (shows photo)
Julia: He’s adorable! Camilla, what about you?
Camilla: Meditation. No matter how busy I am, I always find at least five minutes to meditate.
Julia: That’s awesome! Charlie, how about you?
Charlie: I can’t end my day without reading on my Kindle and drinking green tea. It’s my favorite evening routine.
Julia: Sounds super relaxing! Now, my favorite question. Ready? I’ve been waiting to ask this from the start!
If I could have coffee with anyone in the world, I’d choose…
Julia: Imagine you could grab coffee (or matcha for Camilla) with anyone, real or fictional. Who would it be?
Charlie: Claude Monet. I can look at his paintings for hours. He’s the reason I fell in love with Impressionism.
Julia: Oh wow, he’s my favorite artist too!
Camilla: I’d choose Lana Del Rey. My dream is to dance in one of her music videos, so I’d totally ask her about that!
Julia: That’s so cool! Alisha?
Alisha: Lars Von Trier. He’s one of my favorite directors. I love how he uses visuals to show deep ideas.
Julia: What’s your favorite movie of his? I love Melancholia.
Alisha: Melancholia and Antichrist are my top two. The visuals are amazing.
Susan: I’d love to have coffee with Friedrich Nietzsche. I’ve read all his books, and I’d love to discuss them with him. His thinking is fascinating.
Dwayne: For me, it’d be Jim Carrey. He’s such a great comedian. I’d love to get his thoughts on my stand-up!
I teach English because…
Julia: I know your students would love to know—why do you teach English?
Dwayne: It’s really rewarding. One of my students just got a job offer, and we worked hard together to get there. It’s great to see the results and know you helped.
Alisha: I love connecting people and cultures through language.
Susan: Exactly! I love helping people feel comfortable in new cultures.
Julia: You guys are on the same page! Camilla?
Camilla: As a dancer, I see teaching as a competition toward my students’ goals. We work together to win, whether it’s getting into their dream university or mastering a new skill.
Julia: Love that perspective. Charlie, you’re the last one!
Charlie: I just enjoy being a part of my students’ growth.
Soundtrack of my life
Julia: Last but not least! What’s your favorite song?
Alisha: Bye Bye Bye by NSYNC. I first heard it in a Scrubs episode, and it’s been stuck in my head ever since.
Julia: Yes! I remember that episode, and I was singing it for weeks after!
Dwayne: My favorite is Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go by Wham! I even dance to it in front of the mirror.
Julia: Everyone needs a mirror-dance song, so I totally respect that!
Susan: I love New York, New York by Frank Sinatra. I’ve got a few of his vinyls. His vibe is just amazing.
Charlie: Come Away With Me by Norah Jones. Her music makes me feel like I’m having coffee on a slow, rainy day.
Julia: So soothing! She’s in my top five rainy-day artists too!
Camilla: Blue Jeans by Lana Del Rey. It’s my summer anthem. I remember dancing with friends at the beach to that song. It gives me all the summer vibes.
Julia: I’m loving all your song choices! Will you guys be updating your Spotify playlists for our English learners soon?
Dwayne: Definitely! Follow us on Spotify for some awesome learning-through-music vibes. We’ve got a playlist for beginners, and we’re dropping a Halloween playlist soon!
Julia: It was so much fun chatting with you all! We need to do these talks more often.
Alisha: Totally agree!
